Frequently Asked Questions
Behavioural Assessment- FAQ
A Personality/Behavioural test is a tool to evaluate various aspects of one’s Personality. These tests are designed to elicit information about someone’s thoughts, opinions, traits, motivations, behavioural tendencies, and values.
Such tests can help recruiters assess psychological preferences in how candidates would react and perform in different situations, helping them gain valuable insights into the applicant’s Personality for hiring purposes.
The Behavioural Personal Profile (BPP) is a behavioural assessment that will help you understand yourself and provide meaningful insights. The assessment is designed such that the report generated will give in-depth insights into your thoughts, feelings and Behaviour patterns. It gives you an understanding of who you are and where you stand in terms of your behaviour. This in turn, will help be more self-aware and help you establish a professional career path and enable personal growth.
Assessments available in the market mainly focuses on understanding and profiling your Personality factors alone to identify how well an individual will work with the organisation. The Behavioural Personal Profile (BPP) measures your behaviour in everyday instance, how you deal with emotional challenges, Personality aspects and key behaviours that are essential for determining job success. Hence it offers candidates a holistic profiling.
The assessment, unlike other assessments, does not have a right/wrong answer. The assessment helps you get a better understanding of your personality/behavioural trait.
The raw score for each competency is transformed to a standardised and interpretable STEN score.
Raw Score: A raw score is simply unaltered data from a test or observation.
Sten Score: STEN scores (or “Standard Tens”) divide a scale into ten units. In simple terms, you can think of them as “scores out of ten.

The scores are divided into 4 categories based on standard norm practices. They are as follows:
Development Scope (1-2): highlights the traits that are not within your range or these are not the traits you identify yourself with. You tend to display these traits in a nominal amount and give an insight regarding your development needs with respect to specific areas.
Less Inclined (3,4,5): talks about the competencies that are present within you, but are not used that often. When you are facing a stressful situation, you wouldn’t naturally make use of these skills while handling the situation.
More Inclined (6,7,8): highlights the competencies that may be your potential strengths. You tend to display these traits in healthy amounts.
Strength (9,10): highlights competencies that are your definite strengths. You project these competencies at a high level. These traits come naturally to you, and being aware of your strong points can strengthen your confidence and use them effectively for your personal and professional development.
The assessment has been designed to check how consistent the candidate is responding. Responding in a socially desirable, fake way will render the entire exercise fruitless. Suppose the assessment is used for recruitment purposes, then through other assessment activities the recruiters will be able to identify the dishonesty in the profile, which can affect the candidate’s opportunity to land the job.
Behavioural assessments usually need to be reliable (consistency of the measure) and valid (measure what it intends to measure). The reliability of the BPP Assessment was established through statistical computations. The Cronbach’s alpha obtained through reliability analysis is 0.869 This resultant outcome of the exercise is that the current behavioural assessment is highly reliable and valid.
Every individual is unique, and hence their Behaviour and Personality differ, and are affected by a number of factors such as environment, genetics, etc. The results obtained are also influenced by the individual’s self-awareness and current circumstance. Stressful environments can skew the results. Therefore, it is essential to remember that behavioural assessments can be used as a roadmap to understand oneself but not be considered the absolute truth.
The BPP helps HR and Departmental heads get a deeper insight and effectively select potential candidates who would fit into the organisational culture, contributing to the overall organisation’s growth and productivity. This helps the HR and Departmental heads keep the employees engaged, productive, and effective, thereby bringing down attrition and improving retention.
The results obtained through the Behavioural assessment can be validated through other Assessment centre activities like the Behavioural Event Interview (BEI) and used to enhance the selection process. The Departmental heads can effectively use the BPP to develop Individual Development Plans (IDP) for Hi potential candidates. It is specifically designed to help and identify candidates’ potential areas of improvement.
The statement items are simple and generic situations based on what people face in everyday life. For example: “I would prefer to be alone when I am upset.”
Behavioural assessments are not like Aptitude or Domain Knowledge assessments which require preparation. The candidate has to respond to the test honestly. The test measures areas of the SELF; the candidate has to respond to the statements without pondering too much.
The candidate can have certain fears and apprehensions regarding behavioural/personality assessment because these assessments reveal traits unique to the person, which can leave the person feeling vulnerable. There is no good/bad personality, just that some of the traits possessed by an individual may not be helping them. Taking the BPP assessment will help one understand oneself and use the assessment as a personal feedback. Having self-awareness can help the candidate move in a positive direction.
The objective of the assessment is to understand oneself better. The assessment alone cannot and will not be used as a selection criterion. It will help the recruiters understand where the candidate stands in terms of certain behavioural/personality characteristics which will be further validated by other assessment activities. The recruiters can use the assessment to understand the candidates better and see if they will fit within the organisation’s culture.
Behavioural Assessments are not usually timed and keeping it timed could cause stress to the test taker. Approximately an individual can complete the assessment within 20 minutes.
There are 90 generic behavioural based statements items with options ranging from Strongly Agree, Agree, Disagree and Strongly disagree.
Statement: “I would prefer to be alone when I am upset.”
Strongly Disagree | Disagree | Agree | Strongly Agree
There are items within the test placed in a particular fashion to assess whether the candidate has taken the assessment seriously and consistently. It is not meant to trick the individual taking the assessment.
